Some back story, I had an abusive ex who did steroids on top of already being an angry guy. When we were cuddling or he was happy he would make these high pitched humming noises that were kind of cute at the time. Now I just associate it with a terrible 3 years of my life.
Catching up to now. Currently dating this amazingly sweet guy, all around what I want. Very mature and had a huge drive to succeed. Early in our relationship we were snuggling on the couch when HE MADE THE SAME NOISES. My stomach dropped and had this huge whole body cringe. Thought maybe it was just a nervous tendency so I didn't say anything. 6 months later... He's still doing it and I still react the same. Instant turn off.
Is it worth it to bring up something like this? I'm trying really hard to get over it but I'm still struggling. The last thing I want him to think is that I'm comparing him to my ex.
TL;DR - current boyfriend makes these high pitched humming noises when happy that my abusive ex would make as well. Gives me flashbacks of a terrible time in my life. Worth it to bring up?
