My girlfriend and I are moving in together next month. We've been together about 10 months now. I wanted to wait at least a year of dating before living together, but she seemed to really want to do it now.
I have been living on my own for 2 years, with roommates for 5 years before that. My parents live in another state. My girlfriend is still currently living at her parents house, although she has lived on her own in the past. Since I live on my own, all my possessions are mine (bed sheets, towels, flatware, cutlery, cookware, etc) whereas these items that my girlfriend uses at her home technically belong to her parents.
We are moving to a new apartment in a month, so we have been discussing what we are and aren't going to bring. I already have a lot of the necessities, so it made sense to me to just bring them along. (Plus my gf's mum doesn't really want her to take stuff from her house.) We won't have to go and buy all this new stuff and therefore save money. However, my girlfriend wants us to buy all new stuff. More specifically, get rid of things that my exes have touched. These items include:
mattress, bed sheets, blankets, pillows - because I slept with other people on these things
towels - my exes wiped their hands on them
water pitcher - my exes drank water from it
flatware - my exes ate with them
dresser - exes put stuff on it (not even in it. I've never given an ex a drawer or whatever before)
underwear - any panties that I bought before meeting my current gf has to go
There are probably more, but I think you get the idea. I've never lived with a girlfriend before, so is this normal? Some of these things are only like 2 years old, it doesn't make sense to me to spend $1000 on a new mattress where I have one that works perfectly fine. And I have to buy all new underwear as well? Replace my entire kitchen?
TL;DR My girlfriend and I are moving in together soon. I was planning on bringing most of my stuff to the new apartment. Girlfriend wants to buy all new things because my old things have "germs" from exes on them
