Relationship 101 – Tips for a Happier Marriage

Relationship 101 - Tips for a Happier Marriage

Marriage is a concept both simple and complex.

On the one hand, it is simple to choose a partner for the rest of your life. However, it gradually becomes complicated to have someone to have around for the rest of your life. No doubt, every couple dreams of “happily ever after” while saying the vows.

It is a known fact that all marriages maneuver through rough patches.

Surviving the rest of your life with a partner is not a cup of tea. Sometimes it becomes a hard deal for partners to understand the patterns of marital conflict and they are unable to fix it.

In order to ace the art of leading a happy marriage, you do not always require 101 ways. You can turn your conflicting relationship into a happier one by employing some simple elements. As they say “Less is more.”

Let’s look at some essential elements to create and maintain a happy marriage

Respect is an essential element

Respect each other. Lack of respect could easily make your relationship a burden. While we know that love is inexplicable, the importance of respect for a happier marriage cannot be denied.

A great relationship involves two things; first, find out all the similarities, and second, respect the differences.

One of the tips for a happier marriage is to respect the qualities and achievements of your partner in order to make your marriage work.

Trust each other

Trust is the pillar of a robust and happy relationship. While there is ambiguity about whether jealousy is a healthy dose for a relationship, one thing healthy for a relationship is certain; trust.

Your trust in your partner comes in different forms.

It may include trusting your spouse with difficult decisions or believing in your partner’s dreams.

It is the foundation of trust upon which your relationship can survive the hardest of times. Lack of this foundation can make your relationship fall apart.

Be realistic

Unfortunately, we are socialized to fall victim to the fairy tale; however, not all the marriages have a fairy tale ending. Marriage can neither be effortless nor will it ever be perfect. Therefore it’s essential to let go of the fantasy and accept your partner for who they are.

Never judge your partner or push them in a certain direction and just be there with your loved one in both fun and not so fun times.

Communication

Communication

For a happier marriage it is essential for a couple to attain openness and honesty to discuss conflicting issues. Communication helps a couple to understand each other’s point of view and to get down to a solution. It is mostly the avoided talks that become the root of many problems.

Devote your time to understanding one another.

No one else knows their marriage better than the two involved. Similarly, no one can know the two, as well as the couple, knows each other. It is obvious to expect certain things from your partner, but always remember to have an assertive communication when you felt they need one.

Watch your words

Words of anger have the potential to poison your relationship with your spouse. It is impossible to have a marriage without having some petty arguments. However, it is crucial to watch your words and avoid any statement that is not recoverable.

It’s good to speak your mind but at the same time be careful with words because the aftermath could be devastating.

Anger and intolerance both are enemies of correct understanding.

Compromise and acceptance

The primary key to a happy marriage is to respect personality differences and accept each other’s flaws.

Focus on what there is to praise about your mate and express your specific appreciation.

It is stupid to think that you will marry a person today and change him tomorrow, as it is never going to work.

While aiming for a happy relationship, compromise cannot be avoided. Sometimes, it becomes difficult to get along, but with patience and a little compromise, you can make a marriage last longer.

Apologize and forgive

Where apologizing is hard, forgiving is even harder.

They go side by side in order to keep harmony in any relationship. Lack of any of them can make the marriage a ticking time bomb. Apologizing for your behavior or words to your loved one is nothing to stress about. In short, it is quite necessary to put your egos aside and agree to disagree in order to move on.
