Amazon’s Bezos and Mackenzie Tweets About Divorce After 25 Years of Togetherness

‘Sometimes two people just aren’t suited’– Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’s announcement of divorce attests to the statement made by Beth Cone Kramer.

On January 9th’ 2019, the world’s richest man and Amazon’s CEO surprised the world with his tweet that went viral instantly and triggered news headlines.

Here is the tweet!

After 25 long years of ‘loving exploration,’ and, ‘trial separation,’ Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie have decided to call off their marriage but continue as partners in ventures and projects.

His tweet about the possible divorce from his wife MacKenzie took the world by storm.

A throwback to the good old days

The duo met at the Hedge Fund D.E. Shaw in the year of 1993. MacKenzie was interviewed for her position by the then vice-president of the company, Jeff Bezos. They were engaged within three months and exchanged rings within six.

The couple shared a one-bedroom rental house in Seattle between 1993 and 1999 while Jeff Bezos’s dream was still in the making.

MacKenzie has stood by her husband to witness the gradual unfurling of Amazon from a mere online bookseller into one of the world’s largest retailer and Wall Street’s most valuable company in today’s time, surpassing Microsoft Inc. She had been one of the company’s earliest employees, working as an accountant.

Today, the couple is blessed with four children and are the proud owners of five houses across America.

Developing themselves individually

Over the years, MacKenzie hazed out from the main picture and chose to retain her privacy. But, she remained stolid beside her husband, encouraging and supporting him through tumultuous times.

MacKenzie Bezos became the proud author of two books, including ‘The Testing of Luther Albright.’

Jeff Bezos, on the other hand, donated $2 Bn through the Bezos Day One Fund to help homeless families and start pre-schools for low-income communities.

Together, the couple contributed $33 million and $2.5 million to fund college scholarships for U.S. high schoolers with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status and Washington state campaign to legalize same-sex nuptials.

The announcement of divorce came as a shocker for many as the power-packed couple chose to part ways amicably.

Rumors and innuendos

Already, speculations are building up concerning the future of Amazon. The divorce could affect Bezo’s stake in Amazon.

But, Liat Sadler, a San Francisco matrimonial lawyer, stated that “They have the duty to not waste or devalue marital resources, and to keep the value of the marital property as high as possible.”

She further said, “I don’t think there is an issue of concern for shareholders as to what will happen to Amazon because of the divorce.”

Jeff Bezos made a striking statement about the future of his relationship with his former wife, MacKenzie. He stated that “Though the labels might be different, we remain a family and we remain cherished friends.”
