How to Pack for the Perfect Honeymoon

Honeymoon is the time to relax

Your honeymoon is your much-deserved time to relax and enjoy the special company of your new husband or wife after the whirlwinds of your wedding.

After the endless organizing that comes with a wedding, packing for a honeymoon can often be rushed and even neglected although it’s important to remember that this is actually the key to having the holiday of a lifetime, so planning is crucial.

Whether it be for cocktails at sunset, exploring the hustle and bustle of a city, or lazing on the beach this guide has everything you need to help you pack for the perfect honeymoon, so you can avoid any nasty surprises on arrival.

1. Carry-on bag

When flying, it is always useful for carrying a small handbag or rucksack to keep your personal belongings in that you need handy on the move.

Your handbag will include all your important personal items, so it is a good idea to have a bag with a secure body strap as this will avoid the risk of losing your bag or having it stolen.

  • Passport, airline boarding passes and any other travel documents that you may need
  • Hotel, restaurant or other reservation confirmations
  • Drivers licenses
  • Bankcard wallet
  • Money and local currency
  • Health-insurance cards
  • Contraception
  • Painkillers
  • Phone charger
  • Travel toiletry set (toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, deodorant)
  • Any valuable jewelry and perfume (if it is under 100ml)
  • Headphones
  • Reading a book or magazine
  • Change of clothes/ underwear

2. Main luggage

Pack all that you need

Before packing, it is a good idea to lay everything out, so you can see exactly what it is that you need to pack and spot any items that you may have missed.

Begin to roll or fold your items according to the chosen method. For stiffer items such as shirts, skirts, and smart trousers, fold neatly. Softer items such as cotton t-shirts, knitwear, boxer shorts, sleepwear, and swim trunks shouldn’t crease when rolled tightly.

Tweak according to the destination, planned activities, season and who you are packing for (him or her).

  • 1 pair of leggings or trousers to wear in the cold airports and plane
  • A light jacket which can be tied around the waist of stuffed into a bag when traveling
  • Beach dress
  • Little black dress
  • Cardigan (for cooler evenings at a restaurant)
  • 4 casual shirts (t-shirts or tank tops)
  • 2 pairs of shorts
  • 2 swimsuits
  • 2 bikinis
  • Kaftan
  • Trainers
  • Sandals
  • Flip flops
  • Evening bag/ clutch
  • Bras
  • Accessories
  • Underwear and socks

3. Essentials

It is often thought that you can buy these items when you arrive however, they are not always accessible and can be more expensive, so it is best to pack these prior to your trip.

  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen/ lip balm
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunhat
  • After the sun
  • Plasters
  • Travel sickness aid
  • Sanitaryware
  • Shaving cream
  • Contact-lens solution or glasses (if needed)
  • Shower Gel
  • Tech chargers

Things you think you won’t need but probably will –

1. A belt

It may not seem essential but there are many reasons for needing a belt on holiday and depending on how remote your location is, the chances are there won’t be places to buy one.

For obvious reason, a belt is often needed to hold trousers up but on holiday, women’s leather belts look great with denim shorts or a summer dress, accentuating the waistline and breaking up block colors.

2. Your own hair electronics

Carry your hair electronics

Although this may sound ridiculous, because the hotel often provides you with a hairdryer, due to climate and quality of the hairdryers, they can still often leave your hair looking frizzy and unfinished, making it hard to style.

Yes, this may not typically bother you, but your honeymoon pictures are something you will look back on for the rest of your life so taking your own hair electronics could be a crucial part of making sure you are looking your best for those honeymoon pictures.

3. Last minute tips

  • To avoid any last-minute stress, begin gathering your items up to travel a couple of weeks in advance. This will help when packing for your honeymoon, particularly if you are heading off straight after your wedding day.
  • Find out what your airline carriers baggage rules are so you know what your luggage weight limitations are
  • Check the weather of your destination so you can pack accordingly
  • If you are going to a remote location, bear in mind your internet accessibility
  • A camera is always a great thing to pack particularly on a honeymoon as you will be wanting to get lots of pictures of your memorable holiday
  • Always pack an outfit to travel home in to avoid being chilly
  • If you are taking two cases, it is always a good idea to divide your clothes out between the two, so if disaster strikes, you will have some of your essentials
  • It is important that you pack whatever medication you need as there may not be a pharmacy handy
  • If you have bought your partner a honeymoon present, then do not forget to pack this in secret!
