Many men are not very open and vocal about their sexual desires and preferences but a recent study conducted confirms that men prefer younger women even if they are much older in age. Women, on the other hand, are more comfortable with someone close to their own age or slightly older. They tend to prefer sexual partners in their twenties regardless of their own age.
Another study published speaks about how the age preferred by men increases and expands as they age. This means there is more to the attraction criteria of men apart from the age. Men definitely have a penchant, and a soft spot for women in their twenties and men prefer younger women under every circumstance. The research conducted in this regard showed evident result that the youngest age that men are attracted to remains the same no matter how old they are themselves. This means that a man who is 40 years old would still want to get into a relationship with women who is in her early twenties like 22-23 years. This preference will not change even if the man is 50 or 60.
Women have a way narrower age preference as compared to men
An article was published in PsyArXiv journal in which various psychologists at the Abo Akademi University in Finland confirmed that women have a way narrower age preference as compared to men. They prefer the partners who are about their own age or a year or two older not to that. If we talk about why this major difference in the genders, we can use the evolutionary theory to explain it just like the author Jan Antfolk.
Men are more inclined towards partners who are highly fertile
Antfolk explains this preference using the idea of natural selection, which means that men are more inclined towards partners who are highly fertile. He further explained by saying that women in a number of cases are more choosy with regard to their sexual partner so many men cannot find their desired partner until they are clear and inclusive regarding their sexual preferences and motivation. Antfolk further elaborated and said that he along with his team was also able to conclude with a sample of around 2600 adults that men are interested in younger women, however; their sexual activity is in line with their own age. This means that the sexual compatibility of older men with younger women is not satisfactory.
Age preference develops differently in both the genders
Sexual attraction and age preference develops differently in both the genders. When a woman starts to age, they tend to set comparatively stricter age guidelines in terms of men. They want to avoid making rash decisions, so their inclination as mentioned above is towards men close to their age. They start viewing life from a more practical point of view. On the contrary, men pay less attention to all the consequences, so they continue falling for and being attracted to both older and younger women according to their convenience. Sexual desires also play a great role in this and women’s sexual desires tend to reduce as they grow older and age. While men are maybe increasing their age range as a way to increase and enhance the chance of their sexual intimacy.
Women with an age of around 34 would prefer or consider men with a minimum age of 27 and a maximum age of 46 as their potential life partners. On the other hand, men who are around the age of 37 would consider partners with age between 21 and 49, but in reality, these men had partners in the range 31 and 36. We should bear in mind that the study only focused on the sexual aspect thus the romantic interest of the individuals were not considered.
