Just wondering what the general consensus is on this. I don't wear my engagement ring ALL the time. I don't wear it (or any jewelry for that matter) when I sleep. I usually take it off when I go to sleep and put it on when I get ready for work in the mornings. I don't wear it when I'm doing yardwork, at the gym, or doing other physical work either. My fingers tend to swell when I get hot/sweat and wearing it gets uncomfortable. It's not that I don't like wearing it, that's not it at all.
The issue at hand happened last night. I was making meatballs which requires mixing meat with your hands. I took off my rings (engagement and other ring) because I didn't want to be cleaning meat out of the rings, that's unsanitary and gross. Well, this morning when I was getting ready for work, I forgot to put it on. I took it off in the kitchen last night (I usually take it off upstairs in the same spot so putting it on becomes routine) and when I was getting ready upstairs this morning I told myself to not forget that the ring was in the kitchen. Of course I forgot. So I'm not wearing it today. I realized it as soon as I was more than half way to work and I wasn't turning around for it at that point.
Later this morning, I got a text message from fiancé with a picture of the ring and text that says "Well, I guess I put this somewhere for safe keeping till the time is right". What? I literally just forgot it this morning but he seems to think I don't wear it on purpose. This makes me angry/sad.
There have been other times when I have truly forgotten to put it on and he's said the same comments. I'm NOT intentionally not wearing it, I just forgot it. To further complicate things, I'm supposed to meet with a client later tonight and I know he'll try to draw a conclusion between me forgetting to put it on and meeting this client. I feel like I should cancel this client meeting for another day to just avoid a really stupid argument.
Also to mention, I have metal allergies. So I can't wear cheaper jewelry. Growing up, I never wore jewelry because what child/teen has higher-end jewelry? As a result, I don't wear a lot of jewelry as an adult. I have a watch and the two rings that I wear every day. That's it.
What are the general thoughts on wearing the ring ALL THE TIME. Am I in the wrong here that I don't? Ladies, do you wear it 100% of the time? Men, do you get upset when your SO isn't wearing the ring?
tl;dr: Ring wearing expectations
