Why Britain’s Prince Harry and Actress Meghan Markle’s Wedding Is an Inspiration

Prince Harry and Actress Meghan Markle’s wedding

Meghan and Harry’s love affair from courtship to the proposal to the Royal Wedding was nothing short of a fairytale. However, it wasn’t as grand as Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding where the guest list included close to 2000 people. But something about the humble ceremony in St George’s Chapel witnessed exclusively by the couple’s family, friends and personal acquaintances, struck a chord with the people across the globe. Despite it being a royal wedding, it was the simple yet gracious conduct of the couple that won million hearts. But it just wasn’t the ceremony that made their marriage inspiring, it was their relationship and the story behind it.

Meghan Markle’s story instilled hope in women across the world

Even before she meet the Prince, Meghan was doing quite well for herself. She starred in a very popular television series and was a substantially renowned face in the US. But given the stringent unsaid standards of the British Royal family, she was nowhere close to being eligible to be married into their house. She had been married once before, she belonged to a biracial family, she was way past the ideal age of getting married to a Prince, and yet, she got married to him!

She debunked the myths around the rigidities associated with the Royalty with love and carved out a position for herself in the British Royal family. Her story has given hope to so many women, great things can happen to ordinary people!

Amidst the fame and riches, she stayed true to herself

Meghan didn’t come from the humblest of backgrounds, she was a popular actress. But, she didn’t let the excessive attention from paparazzi and the excitement of being married into the royal family sway her from being herself. On her wedding day, she dressed elegantly in simple plain white Givenchy wedding gown. She kept her makeup bare minimum and let her flaws peek through. She did not give into the pressure of projecting herself as someone she wasn’t, instead, she embraced her true self which really struck a resonance with women all over the world. Her graceful yet down to earth demeanor set her apart from all other royal brides.

Prince Harry- A royalty with a heart of gold

Meghan and Harry’s union was not inspiration just because of what Meghan brought to the table, Harry is entitled to the credit equally. Despite being Britain’s most eligible bachelor, he has been extremely embracing. He loved and accepted Meghan with her flaws and baggage. Though the couple kept their romance out of public sight most of the times, few instances reflect how wonderful Harry is as a partner. First time when the couple made their relationship public, Meghan faced a major wave of abuse and harassment from the public. Being a gentleman he publicly made a strong statement that being involved with him a relationship, she should not have faced such a backlash. He felt disappointed for not being able to protect her. He stood by her always and their relationship sailed through tough times.

Breaking traditions

Although most of the royal traditions and rituals were followed in the wedding, some exceptions were allowed that made it even more beautiful. The couple held hands during the ceremony which is not permitted in royal weddings. But a sweet gesture like this is worth breaking a tradition for. Apart from that royal weddings do not allow the brides to have a maid of honor. However, Meghan had her friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney as her maid of honor. The wedding was a heartwarming amalgamation of Royal traditions and new beginnings.

Prince Harry and Meghan’s story teaches us to never settle for less than what we deserve and makes us believe in happy endings.
